In Nepal, an avalanche hit Yalung Ri Peak base camp, killing seven people and leaving four others missing. This was reported on November 3 by the local newspaper Kathmandu Post, citing the police.
"Among the dead are three U.S. citizens, one Canadian, one Italian and two Nepalese citizens," said Gyan Kumar Mahato, Deputy Superintendent of Dolakha District Police.
He specified that four more people were injured. According to police, the avalanche descended at the moment when a group of foreign and Nepalese climbers, along with their guides, were in a camp at the foot of Yalung Ri and were preparing to climb the higher Dolma Khang peak (6,332 m). Rescue operations in the area of the incident are continuing.
